Intellectual Disabilities Services Overview
SERVICES FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES
Intermediate Care Facilities (ICFs): These programs provide long-term residential services to consumers who have Intellectual Disabilities and co-occurring medical and/or behavioral needs. Consumers are supported in developing a person-centered plan of care to address their needs and desires in areas such as self care, socialization, financial management, communication and mobility. ICF staff provides ongoing active treatment based on consumers’ Individual Service Plans and offers a range of activities to encourage community integration and independence. The ICF team includes the Program Manager, Program Nurse, Social Worker, Recreation Director, Clinical Director, Counselors and Aides. Consumers must be eligible for Medicaid to receive funding for this level of service.
Group Homes: These programs provide residential services to consumers who have Intellectual Disabilities and who need assistance and training to maintain and learn skills related to activities of daily living and use of community resources. Consumers have Support Coordinators assigned by the Community Services Board who are active in their treatment and who support the consumer in developing a person centered plan of care that best meets his or her individualized needs. The Program Manager, Counselors, Aides, Nurse and other people important to the consumers are all active members of the consumers’ team. Each group home is unique and serves consumers with a wide range of skills and needs. Funding for consumers in these programs comes through Medicaid Waiver, county contracts or through private pay.
Community Support Program: This program provides in-home support services to consumers who have Intellectual Disabilities and who live in independent settings. The program currently only supports consumers in Arlington County. Consumers have Support Coordinators assigned by the Community Services Board who support them in the development of a person centered plan of care. Services provided can range from several hours per week to several hours per day. The goal of the service is to provide support to consumers with activities of daily living and use of community resources. Funding for consumers in this program comes through Medicaid Waiver, county contracts or through private pay.
